Sonu Nigam is one of the most iconic singers of today. He has been singing for over two decades and has given us some of the most wonderful songs in Bollywood music. When he made his singing debut in the 1990s, he was initially called junior Mohammad Rafi because of the similarity with the legendary singer’s voice. Sonu even released many albums where he paid tribute to the late Rafi saab by singing his songs. Those albums catapulted him to fame.


The year 2001 marked a turning point in his career. Sonu was the voice behind 2 chartbusters – Tanhayee (Dil Chahta Hai) and Suraj Hua Maddham (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham). These 2 tracks catapulted him to the top league of singers. Sonu won numerous awards that year for his beautiful rendition of these songs. The next few years saw Sonu reigning over the music world with hits like Saathiya (Saathiya), Do Pal (Veer Zaara), Main Hoon Na (Main Hoon Na), Nagada (Jab We Met) and Zoobi Doobi (3 Idiots) amongst many others. Of course, the high point came when Sonu won the National Award for his soulful rendition of the title track of Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). Apart from singing, he has also ventured into acting and more recently, into composing music for films.
